Fri 22, 8-9pm: Memories of a Lord (France) is a dance and music performance. Memories of a Lord is a tripart tale, an ode to the prowess and solitude of history’s great figures. Each of the performance’s three acts shows a different facet of the archetypal leader: first hailed as a savior, then loathed as a despot, before finally becoming nothing more than a shell of himself -the specter of power and alienation. In this show choreographed by renowned French artist Olivier Dubois, a corpus of thirty-five Egyptian amateur dancers gravitate around the magnetic charms of lead performer Nicola Manzoni. The spectacular scene unfolds to the rhythms of Francois Caffenne’s enthralling composition.
In this performance, the hero loves, struggles, and lives to bring light and glory. The tyrant instills terror and barbarism onto the world. These opposing forces find themselves enthralled in an obscure battle. One will emerge victoriously triumphant; the other, succumb to a cruel defeat.
