Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad
In remarks on Saturday, Fouad said the government uses technology to detect any changes in wind direction and closely follows up on the work of the ministry’s monitoring teams on the ground.
Fouad said the ministry's inspection teams filed 12 violation reports against farmers burning rice in the governorates covered under the nationwide air pollution management system.
She added that about 25,500 tons of rice straw have been collected so far from 314 collection sites in these governorates in cooperation with the agriculture ministry.
Many inspection campaigns were also launched to examine vehicle exhaust in separate locations nationwide to tighten control on emissions from vehicles, she said.
The minister noted that about 17,667 cars were examined as part of the campaigns and 3,456 violations were recorded.
The ministry’s teams have also inspected 5,709 industrial facilities so far and registered 1,080 violations, she further said.
