Zamalek announced on Thursday that the Egyptian El-Ahmar has had a change of heart regarding his retirement and will be taking part in the coming continental tournament with Egypt.
The 37-year-old revealed last July that he hadn’t decided yet the date of his retirement but that he is considering ending his international career after the Olympic Games that concluded last August.
El-Ahmar is an iconic handball figure in Egypt and Africa, as he has made four Olympic appearances with the Pharaohs as well as kept a regular spot on the national squad since 2004.
The Zamalek handball star, who is Egypt’s top scorer in the World Championship with more than 250 goals in seven participations, helped the Pharaohs finish 4th in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Morocco will host the African Men’s Handball Championship from 13 to 23 January 2022.
