Born in 1952, El-Sayed directed more than 50 theatrical works since 1981, working in both state theatres and the private sector.
El-Sayed has also directed works for Egyptian television and national celebrations.
El-Sayed received numerous prestigious recognitions, including the State Prize for Excellence in Arts in 2013 and prior to that the Armed Forces Medal in 2009.
He was honoured by the Ministry of Information in 2005, Mass Culture, the Theatre Department of Helwan Arts, and My Freedom newspaper. El-Sayed has also been honoured at numerous Egyptian and regional festivals.
The Sharm El-Sheikh Int'l Theatre Festival for Youth has named its prize for the annual competition for young theatre directors after El-Sayed.
His play Welcome Ya Bakwat won the Best Theatre Show award at the First National Festival of Egyptian Theatre in 2006. He was chosen in several press and media polls as the best director, and his works have been chosen as the most important theatrical shows.
Throughout his career, El-Sayed supervised numerous artistic projects and held several workshops in the Disney Dubbing Studio and the Artistic Creativity Centre, among others.
He held the posts of director of the Comedy Theatre, Television Theatre and head of the Artistic House of Folkloric and Performing Arts.
El-Sayed has been a general coordinator for the Cairo International Festival of Experimental Theatre starting with the 23rd edition and until the 26th.
The director has been honoured at the 28th edition of the festival, among other honourees that included Egyptian director Hassan El-Geretly, Jordanian director Khaled Khaled Al-Tarlaifi, French choreographer Jan Jay Leka and Emirati actor and director Naji El-Hai.
