Egypt's Pyramids FC and Masry handed tough draw in Confederation Cup

Egypt’s Pyramids have been handed a tough draw during the Confederation Cup draw that took place in Cairo on Tuesday as they will be facing North African rivals Sfaxien of Tunisia and Ahly Tripoli of Libya in Group A.

They will also face Zanaco of Zambia in a tight group.

Pyramids FC have reached the final of the Confederation Cup in their maiden participation in 2020 before losing to Morocco’s RS Berkane. In 2021 they lost in the semi-final. 

"We aim for the title. All the teams are strong and are as strong as their peers in the Champions League now. We don't have to be concerned by the draw because whoever wants to win will have to beat the best teams," Pyramids assistant coach Hammad Ibrahim said after the draw.

Meanwhile the costal club Al Masry will be playing in Group C against five-time African Champions TP Mazembe of DR Congo, Coton Sport of Cameroon and debutant AS Otoho of Congo.

The full draw of the CAF Confederation Cup came as follows:

Group A: Ahly Tripoli (Libya), Zanaco FC (Zambia), CS Sfaxien (Tunisia), Pyramids FC (Egypt)

Group B: Al Ittihad (Libya), JS Saoura (Algeria), Orlando Pirates (South Africa), JS Kabylie (Algeria)

Group C: AS Otohô (Congo), Al Masry (Egypt), Coton Sport FC (Cameroon), TP Mazembe (DR Congo)

Group D: USGN (Niger), ASEC Mimosas (Cote d’Ivoire), Simba SC (Tanzania), RS Berkane (Morocco)
