The poster is designed by Salma Osama, a graduate of Film and Animation Department at Pharos University in Alexandria.
The poster expresses the artist's conscience, which fluctuates and falters, reaches the head, and does not rest until it comes out in the form of artistic work. The sun expresses the inspiration that comes from nature or the artist’s previous experience, adding to it a drop that lights up an idea in the form of a feeling. The process fills the artist's mind until he expresses it physically, through a palpable work of art.
Scheduled to take place between 10 and 16 February, the festival's eighth edition will include numerous competitions: for fiction and documentary competitions, as well as an animation competition introduced last year. There is also a student film competition for Egyptians.
The ASFF is a young people’s grassroots initiative founded in 2015 by Mohamed Mahmoud with Mohamed Saadoun and Mony Mahmoud as president, director, and artistic director, respectively. The annual event is organised through the Arts’ Circle (Dayret Al-Fann) Association.
The main awards of the festival are the Golden and Silver Hypatia, named for a Greek philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician who lived in Alexandria.
