Eight people missing, two dead in deadly Nile River accident

The Public Prosecution announced in a statement on Tuesday that eight people have gone missing and two declared dead after a truck fell from a ferry into the Nile River near Monshaet El-Kanater Village, Giza on Monday evening.

The statement also recorded 14 surviors.

According to the prosecution, the truck driver and three ferry workers have been arrested as search and rescue operations and investigations continue.

The accident happened on Monday night when a truck carrying 24 workers got on an unlicensed ferry to cross the Nile River, however, the truck driver lost control of the truck and drove it into the river.

The 24 workers were on their way home from a farm they used to work at according to the prosecution’s statement.

News reports stated that the search and rescue operations have continued all the way till Tuesday morning.
