The upcoming Youth Salon will open on 16 January showcasing 210 works created by 196 young and emerging artists. The works range from paintings, photography, graphics, ceramics, drawing, sculpture, installations, media arts and digital arts, among others.

Coming under the theme of "Dream is the Land of Creativity", the works have been selected from dozens of submissions presented to the Fine Arts Sector (a body operating under Culture Ministry) prior to December 2021.

This year, the ministry has doubled the value of the prizes distributed to the winning works, with a total exceeding LE 300,000 (about $19,000).

The Salon will offer one grand prize worth LE 50,000 and eight other prizes each worth LE 30,000 in different creative fields. One encouragement prize will be also given, worth LE 15,000.

The Youth Salon was launched by the Ministry of Culture in 1989 to support young emerging visual artists. First named the Experimental Salon of Young Artists, the event's name was soon changed to Salon El-Shabab (Youth Salon).

The salon helped kick off the careers of many prominent Egyptian artists, including visual artist Hany Rashed and renowned sculptor Ahmed Askalany.
