Cairo International Film Festival opens submissions for 44th edition

Film submissions for the 44th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) will be opened for two months starting Sunday, the organisers said on Saturday.

“The festival is seeking to attract a diversity of films that represent different cinematic movements and to explore new inspiring experiences from around the world,” stated returning CIFF president, evergreen Egyptian star Hussein Fahmy.

Previously the president of the CIFF from 1998 to 2001, the multi-awarded actor starred in over 125 films as well as tens of TV series, radio series and plays.

Fahmy is succeeding producer and scriptwriter Mohamed Hefzy, who ran the festival for four successive years.

CIFF director Amir Ramses has praised Hefzy’s team with many members maintaining their responsibilities including Andrew Mohsen as programming director and Ossama Abdel-Fattah as Critics Weeks director.

Moreover, Youssef Hesham has been unveiled as the new director of Short Film program alongside with his original task as programmer for North and South America. Rasha Hosny is the programmer for Asia and Magy Morgan for Eastern Europe.

“The management has made all the necessary arrangements for the new call for entries on the festival’s website,” stated Ramses.

One of the oldest and most prestigious festivals in the Arab world and Africa, the CIFF is taking place in the Egyptian capital from13 to 22 November this year.
