From traditional heritage tunes like Foug El-Nakhal (“Above the Palm trees”) to Sufi poetry of Al-Ḥallag, Al-Mutanabbi and Ibn Arabi, Abbas’ repertoire will consist of 10 songs including some of his original compositions.

The ensemble instruments include riq, contrabass, oud, piano and khana accompanying Nasir Sharaf’s Arabic Sufi chanting.

Born in Babilon in 1994, Abbas is a multi-awarded composer and oud player who graduated from Naseer Shamma’s Bait Al-Oud workshop in Cairo.

During his career, he led the Arabic Oud Orchestra and received several prizes including the Carthage Music prize and the Munir Bashir Medal as the best and youngest musician and professor of music in the Arab world.

The concert is held as part of the ASWAT initiative, a series of music meetings and performances focusing on Egyptian culture of music.
