New Ahly coach Soares promises to win available titles this season

Newly assigned Ahly coach Ricardo Soares promised in his first address to fans to win the remaining titles of the current season, revealing his pride in coaching a big team such as Ahly.

The Reds are now competing in the Egyptian Premier League, the 2022 Egypt Cup, and 2021 Egypt Cup which was postponed from the previous season.

“We now need to win the three available titles in the remaining two months of the season,” Soares told the Ahly official Facebook page.

“I am proud to be here and I promise to do everything for Ahly. My agent offered me the Ahly negotiations, and I was happy with that, because it is one of the largest clubs in Africa and the world,” he added.

Ahly who are third on the league table with three matches in hand, lost 3-2 to Smouha on Wednesday in the Egyptian Premier League, and they are expected to continue playing a game approximately every three days in all competitions in the upcoming period.

“We know that we have a busy schedule ahead of us, so it will be difficult to change the way we play in training, but I promise everyone that there will be a clear improvement in the team's performance after this busy period of matches,” said the 47-year-old Portuguese coach.

“I do not like to talk about myself too much, I prefer everyone to see my work on the field, but I know the players will give their all,” he added.

Soares explained that he had accepted Ahly’s offer because of the club’s great history and its big fans, in addition to knowing that Ahly have a clear project and seek always for winning titles, concluding that coaching Ahly is a big challenge because it’s the greatest team in Africa.

Ahly have officially announced the signing of Soares for two years on Thursday without disclosing the financial details, he will start his mission with the game against Petrojet in Egypt Cup semi-final on Saturday.
