“Dieng asked the football director to get a rest until the end of the season after feeling exhausted following his recent successive appearances with the club,” said Ahly’s TV channel reporter.

The 24-year-old Dieng, who joined the Cairo giants from Algeria's MC Alger in July 2019, has featured in 39 appearances with Ahly in all competitions this season, netting two goals.

The Malian international has also started in the team’s last six games and is now confirmed to miss the remaining five league games starting on Wednesday against Eastern Company team.

Dieng is joining a list of the team’s rested veteran stars like goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, left-back Ali Maaloul, defender Ayman Ashraf, and playmaker Mohamed 'Afsha' Magdy who already started their summer vacations.

Ahly, who already lost hope for the league title, currently lies in third place in the Egyptian Premier League table with 62 points from 29 games, ten points behind rivals and league leaders Zamalek, who played one game more.
