Two people missing after Nile ferry accident in Beni Suef

Two people – a nine-year-old boy and a 55-year-old man – are missing after a ferry accident on the Nile River caused several people to fall in the river Friday, the Beni Suef governorate announced.

According to the governorate, the accident happened when the ferry serving the Ashment village suddenly moved at the start of its crossing to the eastern bank while passengers were embarking through the crowded entrance.

Several passengers and motorcycles fell into the river.

Most were rescued from the water, except for two – a nine-year-old boy and 55-year-old man – who are still being searched for.

According to the governorate, the governor Mohamed Hany up followed on the latest developments of the accident and the ordered the suspension of the ferry’s activities.

The Public Prosecution is investigating the incident.
