Egypt's readymade garments council plans to double exports

MENA , Sunday 18 Sep 2022

The Egyptian Readymade Garments Export Council is acting double the sector's exports, it said in a statement Sunday.

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi had previously directed the council to organise an economic conference to exchange views on how to improve the sector.

The council suggested that one session be designated to discussing ways to give the readymade garments industry a shot in the arm.

The clothes sector brings in $2.5 billion in exports annually, said Marie Louis Beshara, council president.

The council is attempting to increase annual exports by eight to 15 percent and has already outlined plans to do so, Beshara said.

She stressed the importance of launching an initiative to bankroll big and middle-sized industries with a five percent interest rate, believing this would help secure finances needed by the clothes sector.

The Readymade Garments Export Council greatly appreciates efforts by the government to support the national industry, Beshara noted.
