Pharaohs coach Rui Vitoria announced on Sunday the 27-man list for the friendly games against Niger and Liberia on 23 and 27 September, which the 30-year-old Awaad was absent from.

“I was surprised from reports and news surrounding my ommission from the national team and that there was an agreement with mister [Jesualdo] Ferreira about that,” Awaad tweeted on his account on Monday.

“These reports are totally untrue and after talking with Mr. Ferreira he confirmed that he nobody had been in contact with him and this saddened me a lot because I wished to represent Egypt’s national team,” he concluded.

Vitoria included three keepers: Ahly’s Mohamed El-Shennawy, Pyramids FC’s Ahmed El Shennawy and Zamalek’s substitute keeper Mohamed Sobhi.

Awaad has been in a great form this season being a key player in Zamalek’s successful league campaign.

Several media reports and anchors have suggested there has been an agreement between Vitoria and Zamalek coach Jesualdo Ferreira to spare the keeper as the Whites will have to play the return leg in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

Vitoria has already included five Zamalek players in his squad.

The Cairo giants beat Elect-Sport of Chad 2-0 in the away leg on Sunday and will play the return leg on 25 September in Cairo.
