Thurs 10, 1-3pm: A panel discussion with visiting writer Vauhini Vara, author of Ghosts and The Immortal King Rao. She will join poet and novelists Noor Naga, Adham Mahmoud, and author of Confessions of a Knight Errant Gretchen McCullough, for a conversation about how we can bring our own life experiences into our creative work. A writing workshop will follow the discussion from 2-3pm in the same location.

Sat 12, 10am -10:30pm: “Etkalem” (Speak up) is an event organized by the Psychology Association at AUC.
Open to AUCians and non-AUCians alike, this free event aims to start a conversation about mental health and break the stigma associated with it. Etkalem will feature over 20 guest speakers who will be sharing their stories, ranging from psychologists and psychiatrists to public figures and influencers, in addition to several booths and food vendors. Dress Casual (jeans ok). AUC is a tobacco-free community. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas. A photo ID is required for entry. All guests must be vaccinated. Mon 14, 7-8pm (Online event): “UNHCR Involvement in Islamic Philanthropy: Exploring New Frontiers in Islamic Philanthropy to Assist the World’s Vulnerable Displaced Populations”, join this Gerhart Centre Webinar Series session featuring Khaled Khalifa, senior advisor and representative to the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and Abbas Barzegar, academic director, Zakat Foundation Institute. As the international community continues to grapple with unprecedented humanitarian demands caused by climate change, conflict, and displacement, it is also exploring innovative ways to resource short and long-term solutions to the crisis. Integrating Islamic philanthropy tools, such as Zakat, Sadaqah, and Awqaf, into international humanitarian and development practice is among the most exciting innovations in the space.
