Directed by Mazen El-Gharabawy, Hamlet Inside Out (Hamlet Bel-Maklob) will be presented within the 23rd edition of the Carthage Theatre Days (Journées Théâtrales de Carthage -JTC) in Tunisia 3-10 December.

Hamlet Inside Out

Hamlet Inside Out, which had several successful runs at Cairo's Salam Theatre since it premiered last January, is the only play from Egypt participating in the JTC as well as its official competition this year.

This new adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet is written by Sameh Mahran and stars Amro El-Qadi, Khaled Mahmoud, Samar Gaber, Nehad Said, among others.

The production also features the renowned Egyptian actor Khaled El-Sawy as Hamlet’s ghost using 3D mapping and hologram technology.

The JTC has been one of the most important theatrical festivals in the Arab region since it was founded in 1983.

It ran bi-annually for three decades, alternating with the Carthage Cinema Days, until 2015 when it went annual.

The festival was suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic but returned in 2021.

The 23rd edition is headed by the Tunisian actress Nissaf Ben Hafsi, who was also in charge of the JTC last year.
