In its weekly update, the EMA expected the snow to cap the South Sinai city of Saint Catherine and Mount Sinai and frost to form in middle Sinai.

Frost is also expected in the country’s south, where temperatures will be among the lowest in Egypt.

A 40-50 per cent chance of moderate rainfall is expected through Thursday in several areas nationwide – including the North Coast, Nile Delta, the Suez Canal cities (Suez, Ismaila and Port Said) and Sinai – according to the EMA.

The EMA also warned of active sand and dust-filled wind in Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, and Sinai, with disruption in maritime navigation expected on Monday and Tuesday along the Mediterranean, where wind speed will reach 20-29 km/h and the height of the waves between 3-4 metres.

Moderate weather is predicted during the day nationwide, according to the EMA.

Over the week, Greater Cairo and Nile Delta will see highs of 16-19 degrees Celsius and lows of 9-10 degrees. The North Coast is expected to see highs of 16-18 degrees and lows of 9-11. South Sinai will see highs of 20-23 and lows of 10-14.

Northern Upper Egypt will see highs of 17-19 degrees and lows of 4-5 degrees, while southern Upper Egypt will see highs of 20-24 degrees and lows of 7.
