Malawi coach doesn’t expect miracles against Egypt

Malawi boss Mario Marinica said on Thursday he doesn’t expect an extraordinary performance from his foreign-based players when his side face Egypt on Friday, stressing he would rely on team work rather than individuals.

The Malawian team has many players who play in the Mozambican league, which is yet to start, and the Romanian coach believes that the players will not be able to appear in their top form.

Egypt will host Malawi on Friday at Air defense stadium in the 2023 Nations Cup qualifiers.

The Pharaohs are fourth in Group D with three points.

They are on level with the other teams who all have three points, but they lie in the Group bottom due to their negative goal difference record.

“Obviously, we don't expect miracles as we knew all along that the Mozambican league has not started,” Marinica told Malawian newspaper the Nation on Thursday.

He said that “Gaba, [Dennis] Chembezi, Peter Banda and Khuda [Muyaba] have hardly been involved in recent games, if any."

“So, we will bank on strategic factors and overall team performance rather than individuals,” he concluded.
