In a statement on Sunday, the board said it will raise a draft law containing the suggested amendment to President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in order that it be referred to the country's House of Representatives for approval.

The NEA is tasked with managing elections and referendums nationwide.

However, judicial supervision of polling, referendums and elections has been allowed following the adoption of the 2014 constitution, as per the NEA's law.

The ten-year term allowing such supervision is set to expire in January 2024.

Egypt is scheduled to hold its next presidential elections in mid-2024, while parliamentary elections are to be held in 2025.

Meanwhile, the board of trustees also proposed to kick-start the national dialogue meetings on 3 May after the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the holidays of Eid El-Fitr, Sinai Liberation Day, Easter and Labour Day.

It also added that it will continue in the coming period to receive names and proposals to be discussed during the dialogue meetings, the statement noted.

The president called for the dialogue during the annual Egyptian Family Iftar banquet on 26 April. The dialogue is set to look into all political, economic, and social issues.

In September 2022, the 19-member board of trustees completed its selection of rapporteurs and assistant rapporteurs for the dialogue's three main tracks (political, economic, social) and their 19 subcommittees.

Recommendations that will be made by the subcommittee will be referred to the board to be sent to the president for a final say, according to previous remarks by the General Coordinator of the National Dialogue Diaa Rashwan.

The president has asserted that all intellectuals, syndicates and political forces are invited to the dialogue, while assuring that only one faction is exempted from the dialogue, in reference to the Muslim Brotherhood group.
