Ahly to play the rest of season with youth team, demand sacking of refereeing committee

Ahly said on Thursday that the club will play the rest of the season with the club’s youth team as consequence of the team’s current poor results in the domestic league.

The Red Devils’ hopes of winning the league title were dealt a heavy blow after being held to a goalless draw by Pharco FC in a game that saw a poor performance from the team’s players and many controversial decisions from the referee.

The referee disallowed a goal from Ahly South African winger Percy Tau after VAR review due to offside, but TV replays showed the Ahly player was in an onside position while scoring the goal.

After the game Wednesday, the club announced that the club board will hold a meeting on Thursday to discuss the current situation of the football team especially after the wave of anger from Ahly fans who made offensive chants against the players and the club board during the game.

“Ahly decided to play the rest of the season with the youth team and the players who returned from injury,” read a statement on the club’s official website.

“We demand the sacking of the refereeing committee and the suspension of the VAR referee during the Ahly game against Pharco.”

“The club will boycott the upcoming competitions organised by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) such as the Egypt Cup and the Egyptian Super Cup until the club’s demand are met,” the statement added.

Ahly are now third in the table with 56 points, ten behind leaders Zamalek who have played one match more.
